Tartrazine

Characteristics

Additive NameTartrazine
E No.E 102
TypeIndividual Substance
In plain language

A synthetic yellow dye used in processed foods, soft drinks, confectionery, and some cheeses. It has no nutritional value — purely cosmetic. EFSA and FDA consider it safe at approved levels, but it remains controversial. Some studies link it to hyperactivity in children, particularly in combination with other artificial dyes. People with aspirin sensitivity or asthma may also react to it. Worth checking labels if you're sensitive.
