A synthetic binding and stabilising agent used in tablet-form products — keeps compressed tablets from crumbling and helps ingredients hold together. Found in sweetener tablets and solid food supplements. Considered safe by EFSA and FDA at the levels used. It passes through the body without being absorbed, so systemic exposure is minimal. Very limited use — you'll rarely encounter it outside tablet-form products.
