A synthetic blue dye used to colour processed foods and drinks. Found in candies, soft drinks, and some canned or preserved foods. It creates bright blue or green shades when combined with yellow dyes. Generally considered safe by EFSA and FDA at approved levels. Some studies have suggested possible behavioural effects in children when consumed in combination with other artificial dyes and sodium benzoate, prompting the UK FSA to recommend voluntary phase-out. Sensitivity reactions are rare but possible.
