A modified starch used as a thickener and stabiliser, made by chemically treating regular starch with phosphate groups. Found in low-fat dairy products, infant cereals, and young children's milk drinks. The modification improves texture and prevents separation in processed foods. Generally considered safe by EFSA, including for use in baby and young children's foods at regulated levels. The body breaks it down like ordinary starch. No significant health concerns at typical dietary exposure.

Conditions of Use

This additive is authorised to be used in the following 3 food categories:

1.6.2Unflavoured live fermented cream products and substitute products, both with a fat content of less than 20 %
Quantum satis (no max)
13.1.3Processed cereal-based foods and baby foods as defined by Regulation (EU) No 609/2013
Maximum Level = 50000 mg/kg
