It acts as a thickener and stabilizer, helping foods maintain a smooth, consistent texture — even after freezing, heating, or long storage. Found in dairy products, baby foods, and cereal-based foods for young children. Approved by EFSA and considered safe at levels used in food, though its use in infant and baby products is tightly regulated and limited.

Conditions of Use

This additive is authorised to be used in the following 3 food categories:
