A metallic decorative agent — real silver — used to add a shimmering, luxurious finish to chocolates, confectionery, and alcoholic beverages. It has no flavour and no nutritional value whatsoever. Approved for very limited use in the EU, strictly as a surface decoration only. At the tiny amounts permitted, it is considered safe, as metallic silver is largely inert and poorly absorbed by the body.
