A natural antioxidant — the synthetic form of vitamin E, derived from plant oils. It prevents fats and oils from going rancid, extending shelf life without changing flavour or appearance. Found in cooking oils, margarines, baby formula, and infant foods. Considered very safe, even for infants. It's authorized specifically in baby and follow-on formulas, where it also provides a nutritional benefit as vitamin E. No significant health concerns at levels used in food.

Conditions of Use

This additive is authorised to be used in the following 6 food categories:

2.1fats and oils essentially free from water (excluding anhydrous milk fat)
Quantum satis (no max)
except virgin oils and olive oils
13.1.1infant formulae as defined by Regulation (EU) No 609/2013
Maximum Level = 10 mg/kg
Footnote 16: E 306, E 307, E 308 and E 309 are authorised individually or in combination
13.1.2follow-on formulae as defined by by Regulation (EU) No 609/2013
Maximum Level = 10 mg/kg

For uses in nutrient preparations under the condition that the maximum level in foods mentioned in Part E, points 01.10 and 13.1, of Annex II is not exceeded
