Citric acid

Characteristics

Additive NameCitric acid
E No.E 330
TypeIndividual Substance
In plain language

A naturally occurring organic acid found in citrus fruits, berries, and many vegetables. Used as an acidity regulator, preservative, and flavour enhancer across an enormous range of foods — from jams and canned vegetables to fresh pasta, cheese, and soft drinks. One of the most widely used food additives in the world. Considered very safe by WHO, EFSA, and FDA with no established upper limit for healthy adults. Your body produces and metabolises it naturally as part of normal cell energy processes. Occasional sensitivity reactions are reported, but true allergies are extremely rare.
