A plant-derived sterol found naturally in soybean oil, rapeseed, and other vegetable sources. Used as a functional ingredient to help lower LDL cholesterol levels when consumed regularly. Currently authorised in a very narrow category of low-alcohol beverages in the EU. Effective at reducing cholesterol, but people on cholesterol-lowering medication should consult a doctor before regular consumption, as effects can combine.

Conditions of Use

This additive is authorised to be used in the following 1 food category:

14.2.8Other alcoholic beverages including mixtures of alcoholic beverages with non-alcoholic beverages and other alcoholic beverages based on distilled alcohol with alcoholic strength by volume less than 15 %
Maximum Level = 80 mg/L
only to water-based ready-to-freeze alcoholic cocktails
Footnote 80: Carry-over in the final product shall not exceed 250 mg/kg
