An anti-caking agent and acidity regulator used in cocoa products and table salt to prevent clumping and keep powders free-flowing. It's a naturally derived mineral compound — essentially the same magnesium oxide found in antacid supplements. Used in very small amounts, it poses no known health concerns. Widely considered safe by EFSA and FDA.

This additive is authorised to be used in the following 2 food categories:

5.1Cocoa and chocolate products as covered by Directive 2000/36/EC
Maximum Level = 70000 mg/kg
E 170, E 500 - 504, E 524 - 528 and E 530: 7 % on dry matter, without fat, expressed as potassium carbonates
