An anti-caking agent — it stops powdered and granulated foods from clumping together. Found in powdered spices, salt, grated cheese, and some supplements. It is synthetic but chemically identical to the mineral found in sand and quartz. Generally considered safe by EFSA and FDA at normal food use levels. The body does not absorb it — it passes through without interacting. Nano-sized particles have raised some scientific discussion, but current evidence does not indicate a health concern at permitted doses.
