An anti-caking agent and surface coating used mainly in chewing gum to prevent sticking and improve texture. It is a synthetic mineral compound — essentially a form of talc — that passes through the body without being absorbed. Considered safe at levels used in food by EFSA and FDA. Its use is tightly restricted to very few food categories.
