An anti-caking agent used to keep powdered and granular products like table salt free-flowing and clump-free. It works by absorbing moisture. Synthetic in origin, it is one of several aluminium-containing additives permitted in food. EFSA has reviewed aluminium compounds collectively and advises that total dietary aluminium intake should remain low, though the amounts from this additive are generally minimal.
