An anti-foaming agent used in frying oils, soups, jams, batters, and even cider. It prevents excessive bubbling and foam during cooking or industrial food processing. It's a synthetic silicone compound — the same family used in sealants and cosmetics, which sounds alarming but isn't necessarily cause for concern at food-grade levels. EFSA and FDA consider it safe at approved doses, and it passes through the body without being absorbed.
