A natural plant-based wax derived from the leaves of the candelilla shrub, native to Mexico. Used as a glazing agent and coating — it gives chocolate, candies, and fresh fruits that smooth, shiny finish while also protecting them from moisture and sticking together. Found in chewing gum, coated nuts, bakery products, and supplements. Considered safe by EFSA and FDA with no significant health concerns at the levels used in food. It is not digested and passes through the body without being absorbed.
