Steviol glycosides from Stevia

Characteristics

Additive NameSteviol glycosides from Stevia

TypeIndividual Substance
In plain language

A natural-origin sweetener extracted from the leaves of the Stevia plant, native to South America. It delivers intense sweetness — up to 300 times sweeter than sugar — with virtually no calories. Found in flavoured drinks, fruit nectars, yoghurts, ice creams, and meal replacement products. Both EFSA and FDA consider it safe at approved levels. Some people notice a slight bitter or liquorice-like aftertaste. A solid sugar alternative for those watching calorie intake or blood sugar levels.
