A natural foaming agent extracted from the bark of the South American quillaia tree. It creates stable foam in drinks and is used mainly in flavoured beverages, ciders, and liquid food supplements. Generally considered safe at authorised levels by EFSA. In large amounts it can irritate mucous membranes, but typical food-level exposure is far below concerning thresholds.
