Tian Hu Shan green tea powder MATCHA TEA is a rich green traditional Japanese drink made from ground tea bush leaves. A great alternative to coffee. Matcha (mačia) is made from the same plant as all other teas – the Chinese tea bush Camellia sinensis. However, its cultivation and processing differ significantly from other tea types. 3–4 weeks before harvest, tea bushes are covered with a dark tarp to block direct sunlight. Growing in the shade, the plants intensely produce chlorophyll, L-theanine, resulting in matcha's vibrant green color and umami flavor. The harvested tea leaves are immediately processed. Finally, the leaves are ground into very fine powder using stone mills, from which tea is made, but they can also be used to prepare various other dishes.
