"Lebensbaum" organic bourbon vanilla pod. The soft, sweet taste of bourbon vanilla masterfully complements sweet dishes, from cakes to Crème brûlée. However, the delicate vanilla pod is also suitable for fish and salads. This bourbon vanilla is organically grown in Madagascar, where orchids thrive in tropical forests. Small farmers engage in labor-intensive cultivation and often processing. The flower buds of the orchids are pollinated by hand, with a skilled hand capable of pollinating up to 1,200 flowers per day. Within 6-8 months, a green pod grows from each flower. Before it matures, and its color changes from green to yellow, each pod is handpicked. The pods take on a dark brown color after months of fermentation and drying process. This African beauty was named in the 19th century after Réunion Island, which was then still known as Île Bourbon. The orchids we enjoy are originally from Mexico, where, as early as the 14th century, Aztec rulers valued the pleasant vanilla aroma combined with cocoa. Preparation for use: cut the pod lengthwise with a sharp knife and extract the pulp (see pictures). Use the pulp. Note: if white spots appear on the pod, this is not a sign of poor quality.
